The Creston Valley - Your Home for Recreation (Winter Edition)

(November 20, 2016 )

As I mentioned in a previous blog post, there is an amazing variety of recreational activities possible in the Creston area.  Today I will mention some of the winter options.

While we do not have a "local" ski hill, we are within a reasonable driving distance from several.  Within BC you have options like Kimberley Mountain ResortFernie Alpine ResortWhitewater Ski Resort, and Red Mountain Resort, or a short drive south into Idaho gets you to Schweitzer Mountain Resort.  If you prefer untouched powder, there are many locations where you can access the back country.

There are many trails and areas near Creston that are suitable for snowshoeing or cross country skiing.  At the summit of the Kootenay Pass on Hwy 3, you will find a cabin which is the start of many trails.  There are also many trails through the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area.

If you would prefer powered outdoor sports, the Creston area has some amazing snowmobiling terrain.  Contact the Kokanee Country Snowmobile Club for more info.

When the weather stays cold enough for long enough, many people head out onto Duck Lake to do some ice fishing, or head out in their boats to try their luck on Kootenay Lake.

Some people prefer their winter activities indoors.  The Creston & District Community Complex is where you want to go.  The Complex includes pools, a fitness centre with weights and cardio equipment, the curling rink, and the hockey / skating arena.  There is also several multi-use rooms that are rented out for various events through the winter.

These are just a few of the options available in the area.  When you decide you want to take advantage of the amazing winter climate full time, give me a call and I will help you find your new home!
